Sigmund Freud called dreams “the royal road to the unconscious,” and for aspiring psychic mediums, this couldn’t be more true. Dreams hold powerful clues, emotional insights, and even messages from higher dimensions and passed loved ones. Learning to understand and interpret them is a vital step in developing your psychic abilities.

Why Dreams Matter to a Psychic Medium

Dreams are a gateway between the conscious and unconscious mind. They offer a safe space for spiritual communication, deep emotional release, and psychic messages. As a Psychic Medium, your dreams may evolve into vivid, symbolic journeys. Some may feel prophetic, while others may serve as healing encounters with spirit guides or loved ones who have crossed over.

Dreams are not random. They can be spiritually guided experiences that reflect your intuitive development. They highlight your growing sensitivity and provide confirmation that your psychic awareness is expanding.

Key Tip: Keep a dream journal by your bedside. Write down every detail—symbols, colors, emotions, people, and places—right after waking. These messages often hold more meaning than first meets the eye.

The Science Behind Dreaming and Psychic Function

We dream because we must. The REM (Rapid Eye Movement) phase of sleep not only supports our brain and body but also opens a unique window into our subconscious mind. This is where the psychic medium’s work begins—where intuition is heightened, and spiritual insights can emerge.

Dreaming helps:

  • Regulate emotions

  • Solve complex problems

  • Trigger creativity

  • Deliver spiritual downloads

Did you know? Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday after hearing the melody in a dream. Einstein claimed the theory of relativity came to him in a dream state. Dreams are an incredible incubator for intuition, innovation, and guidance.

Dreamwork for the Developing Psychic Medium

If you’re on the path to becoming a Psychic Medium, integrating dream analysis into your routine is essential. Use the steps below to access deeper truths in your dreams:

1. Feel First

Pay attention to the emotions within your dream. They are your compass. Joy, fear, sadness, or awe—these feelings point to the dream’s significance.

2. Trust the Message

Not all dreams make immediate sense. Don’t force a conclusion. Sometimes the meaning unfolds over time. Keep your dream journal updated and revisit entries. Connections will emerge.

3. Look to the Past, Present, and Future

Dreams may highlight unresolved issues from the past, make sense of present challenges, or offer visions of possible futures. They are multidimensional in nature—just like your psychic awareness.

4. Search for Relevance

Ask: “How does this dream relate to my waking life?” Cross-reference symbols, feelings, or messages with events, relationships, or intuitive nudges you’ve experienced.

Crafting Your Own Dream Symbol Dictionary

As a Psychic Medium, you’ll notice patterns in your dreams—recurring symbols, themes, or emotions. These are personalized messages tailored to your soul’s journey.

Here’s how to create your own dream symbol guide:

  • Keep a dedicated dream journal

  • Note symbols, settings, and sensations immediately upon waking

  • Track emotional tone: fear, comfort, curiosity, etc.

  • Look for patterns over time

  • Assign meanings to symbols based on your life experience

Avoid generic dream dictionaries. While they can offer inspiration, your inner voice knows best. A bird may symbolize freedom to one person and anxiety to another. Your interpretations are the most powerful.

Developing Psychic Abilities Through Dream Recall

Think you’re a prophetic dreamer? You might be. Start by improving your dream recall. The more you remember, the more intuitive messages you’ll receive. Use these tips:

  • Set the intention to remember your dreams each night

  • Meditate before bed to relax your mind

  • Use Hemi-Sync or brainwave music to enter deeper dream states

  • Keep your journal close and write immediately upon waking

  • Reflect on your dreams weekly and look for deeper meanings

Final Thoughts: Dreams Are the Psychic Medium’s Hidden Treasure

Your dreams are more than just mental movies—they’re spiritual messages encoded in symbols and emotion. They act as a bridge between your conscious mind and the universal wisdom all around you.

As a developing Psychic Medium, give your dreams the respect and attention they deserve. The more you engage with them, the stronger your intuitive abilities will become. Dreams can help you:

  • Connect with spirit

  • Receive prophetic visions

  • Heal emotional wounds

  • Align with your soul’s purpose

Start tonight. Record your dreams, reflect often, and trust the process. Your intuitive voice speaks through your dreams—it’s time to listen.

Sometimes I start dreaming as soon as I start drifting off. Has my brain reached REM that quickly? Also, do you have any insight as to a couple recurring dreams I’ve had all my life? They are very vivid…Dolby sound and Technicolor!? I really would appreciate any insight you have to these questions.

    • Hi Brenda! I’m so delighted with your question! Personally, I have water dreams. Since I can remember, I’ve dreamt of water at various times. I quickly realized these dreams were a guide for me offering insight to my present life and/or what’s ahead. The water presents in my dream in different ways. Sometimes it’s frozen water; placid, warm bright blue water; murky, and/or shallow. I recall one dream of a frozen canal and yet another of a dynamic, rushing, loud waterfall. In time, as I explored these water dreams more their meanings became very clear to me. Now, I’m able to respond to them and make changes in my life whenever I have this kind of dream. Yes, indeed your recurring dreams are here to get your attention, guide you and make changes in your life. These recurring dreams you and I are having are called ‘precognitive dreams’. 1. Keep a dream journal. – In your journal record and date each dream in detail as possible.
      2. Start with Lucid dreaming. – In this space you begin to open the door to a new kind of consciousness that encompassed things like out of body experiences and astral travel.
      3. Be Open and Receptive. – Your subconscious will begin to send you signs and symbols and messages, if you will listen. So, be especially tuned in and open to heightened messages.

Hi I ended up dreaming of my ex girlfriend last night, we were relaxing walking around since we’re close friends and she asked why I didn’t marry her. I told her she broke up with me and she then told me how she wanted to start a family. Then the dream proceeded with different things I don’t understand, such as school then working my way up into the medical field.?

I’ve been having a lot of vivid dreaming even before Covid happened. I feel like I’m being guided now to get explanations/help on my dreams. I don’t want to open up anymore abilities that I have. I just want to be able to sleep restfully without having the lingering feeling of a dream the next day.

    • Hi Crystal, Your dreams are not in charge, you are. Set the intention as you fall asleep that you’ll awake rested. When you wake, make note of any lingering emotions or images. In so doing you create a subconscious purging and so the dream does not go with you throughout the day. Warmly, Michelle

rough water dreams for many years was based on my emotional self in the physical body experiences and the fear i faced here on earth. As soon as i faced and stopped fighting against the currents and magnificent waves ,my physical self became stronger and i learned from dream experiences how to face the tough times in my life and very challenging situations. I believe that when i dream a book of horrors that i am guided there by the other side to learn in the spiritual world in order to be strong in the physical world. I also believe that once challenges in the spiritual world are conquered we are able to connect spiritually in the physical world.

Every night my dreams consist of me trying to find a way home. I’m not exactly lost, I know where I’m going.. I just can never seem to get there. I don’t even think I know what home is in the dream. I’m just trying my hardest to get there.. but I never make it.

    • Celina, Your dreams are happening with you and for you, not to you. So you are in charge. Set the intention to get where you’re going. Try saying out loud before you fall asleep, “Universe, it is my intention to reach my destination of home in my dream.” Warmly, Michelle

    Hi Michelle,
I’m very excited that I found you after scouring the internet for some help with interpreting my dreams. I will definitely check out your podcast. I have been having frequent dreams lately with certain reoccurring symbols, such as black cats. And I LOVE black cats, so these have always been happy dreams. In addition, I’ve had many recent dreams about being in the presence of people with psychic or other metaphysical powers, and being shown and taught about a berry that has some magical powers. I was not scared and these were either happy or curious dreams. I have some possible feelings of what this could mean, but couldn’t find much in dreamer dictionaries about this. I feel like both of these themes are connected. Any guidance or ideas are very welcome. Thank you!

Although I never met the man. I’ve had a dream of helping this celebrity who had passed away almost 3 years ago in real life. I’ve always felt like some sort of connection with his music but this time in my dream it was as if i was on a mission to help uncover the truth behind his death. Ive always had really intense and vivid dreams and im still not sure what this one meant but it just felt completely real to me and personal. In a lot of my dreams i can control what im doing or what happens but i always wake up with a strange sense of closeness to these people ive never met.

  • Confused says:

Hi. Recently, I’ve started writing my dreams down here and there. Sometimes when I dream, in my dream, I say to myself, “you’re dreaming so this is your world and you will control it,” from there, I am able to control my dreams. For example, I was having a nightmare and in my dream I told myself, “listen, this is just a dream so it’s your mind, you can control what happens.” I’ve done this several times. What does this mean? Also, I’ve prayed had to mourn a loss in the past and it’s been years, but it comes up in my dreams still. Even after not thinking about this loss for a long time; it just pops back in my dreams. I am actively telling the universe to end the thoughts and dreams of the loss. Usually, it goes away for months and right when I think the thoughts and feelings of the loss is gone, it pops up in a dream. How can I solve this problem? Thank you, I’ve enjoyed your post.

    • Thank you for sharing your experience. You are receiving guidance in your dreams indeed. Set the intention to continue this clarity and the answers will come to you more and more, w/o this back and forth you mentioned. Stay consistent, that is the key. Be well now and do keep in touch! (: Warmly, Michelle

I’m new to being a medium and have had a dream that I told them about a deceased love one had a message for one of them. The next day in real life they had to cancel due to a death in the family. I’m not sure what to make of this.
